Playgroup Leader 

I joined Compass in August 2024 as the Playgroup Leader. Previously I worked as a playgroup manager for over 7 years. During which time I volunteered in the local primary school supporting athletics sessions. Since 2018, I have spent my weekends as an early years Polish language and heritage teacher, working with bilingual children.  I have completed a degree in Childhood Studies and numerous training courses on bilingualism and the latest pedagogy practice. I love working with children. I’m also a mum of two boys, I love nature, travelling and living a healthy lifestyle.

Playgroup Assistant 

I've worked in childcare since 2005, gaining my SVQ 3 in 2007 through an apprenticeship course while working at Jigsaw Nursery. I spent 3 years at Jigsaw before leaving to be a nanny for a local family in Balerno. I have been working at Compass since 2013. I now work across both Compass Playgroup and Dean Park Nursery. I have two children of my own who have both attended Compass.

I have been working in the childcare industry for 21 years, in both Poland and Scotland. I joined Compass Playgroup in February 2025. Recently I started working on my SVQ qualifications in childcare. I have 4 children, two sons and two daughters, so I am still a very busy mum. I like being outdoors and I love reading books.

I have worked in childcare for 27 years.  After I completed my HNC in Childcare & Education, I worked in private nurseries before setting up my own childminding business. After my own children had started school I was looking for a change, so I jumped at the chance to work at Compass. I have worked at Compass since 2013 and find it a lovely place to work.  I've also taught gymnastics to half of Balerno, having coached at Pentland gymnastic club for the past 37 years.

Nicola Buckner

I have worked in childcare since I was 21. I completed my SVQ Level 3 through an apprenticeship at Little Monkeys Nursery, and after a few years there, I became a nanny. I then had 2 children of my own and set up my own childminding business. When both my children started school, I was delighted when I found out Compass had a vacancy. I have been here since August 2024, and I love it. It is a very fun and friendly environment to work in and the kids are brilliant!

I have worked for Compass since 2015 and I have over 30 years of childcare experience in various nursery settings. I have three grown up boys of my own, and I love dogs and the outdoors.

I have been working in childcare since I was 17 and joined Compass Playgroup in January 2024. I’ve gained my SQV3 by doing my apprenticeship at Compass. Compassis is a bright and fun environment and great place to work.
